Tours & Activities in Cambridge
Hello there!
Are you a history and archaeology enthusiast, or simply curious about the human past? Well, I share your passion, and I'm excited to take you on one of my tours.
During our journey, you'll have the opportunity to explore the Hill beneath which the origin of Cambridge lies, and the original location of the "Bridge over the Cam" (Cambridge) from the time when Roman legions were stationed here. We'll see one of the United Kingdom's four oldest surviving round churches and stroll by the iconic gates of St. John's College and Trinity College (the rivals, the wealthy, the prestigious). If possible, we'll even step into the beautiful Trinity College paddocks.
As we continue, you'll be captivated by the breathtaking King's College Chapel on the famous corner of the Backs, and I'll share the intriguing stories of its connection to the Wars of the Roses. We'll discuss the legendary Mathematical Bridge and how it became a symbol of Cambridge. You'll also learn about Cambridge's role in shaping the American colonies, with fascinating insights into a pub and laboratory that left a mark on our modern world. We'll understand what colleges are and explore why these unique institutions exist. Additionally, you'll witness the contrast between the oldest and most recent landmarks in Cambridge: a tower and a clock.
This 120-minute journey promises not only knowledge but an enjoyable experience. Be prepared for a bit of rain and some puddles, as we explore this extraordinary city together. Please note that access to structures is not guaranteed, and I recommend using the restroom facilities before the tour begins.
I'm eager to guide you through the centuries in this remarkable city.
Important: This tour is pet-friendly, and nearly every part of the route is accessible for wheelchairs. However, there are a few spots, such as the beginning, where stairs and slopes might pose a challenge for wheelchairs. Please also monitor communications via GuruWalk chat, as there may be updates. Failing to check for them could potentially result in missing the tour.
Just a heads-up before you book!
Cheers.
Have you ever wondered what it's really like to study at the University of Cambridge? Then come along to hear a first-hand account of Cambridge from a current student! After studying at Cambridge for the past two years, I have knowledge of the University personally, and so my tour goes beyond the history books and delves into the life of a current student.
What is a supervision like? Does everyone live in the library? Do Cambridge students have a personality? Is Cambridge really just Hogwarts? Why do we wear weird gowns and speak Latin? I'll answer these questions and more, all from a student's perspective.
Join me for a roughly two-hour stroll around central Cambridge, with tales of student life and a scattering of the exciting bits of Cambridge's rich and long history.
My tours are flexible and subject to change, but will typically cover:
- St John's College
- Trinity College
- Gonville & Caius College
- The River Cam
- King's Backs
- Queen's College
- Silver Street Punt Pool
- Corpus Christi College & Clock
- St Catherine's College
- King's College
- Senate House & University Old Schools
- Great St Mary's Church
- Market Square
Unfortunately we are unable to enter the college grounds, as the colleges have unpredictable visitor hours, are often closed to tourists, and have varying costs of admission. However, I highly recommend returning to colleges which are open for tourists after the tour. I would be more than happy to advise you how to do this.
My tour will be guided by what you would like to know, so expect some questions asked of you. I'm not a lecturer, so my tour will be as interactive as you wish!
I look forward to meeting you on one of my tours!
