Everything you need to know about Buenos Aires in three hours.
On this tour we will explore the heart of the city and will talk and learn about the fascinating political history of the Argentinian capital.
From life before the colonial times, the struggle and war of independence, and the waves of immigrants that forever changed the face of the city and the country. The “barn of the world” and how one of the richest countries of the world in the wake of the 20th ended in one of the biggest economic crises of the planet a century later. The lights and shadows behind the myth of the “Europe of the Americas”.
Tango, football, literature, psychotherapy, politics, dictatorships, and resistance, the history of Argentina has all of the ingredients for a passionate drama. And that reflects onto its population.
“To me, Buenos Aires is eternal, like water or air“ (as the famed writer Jorge Luis Borges once said)
Why does the seemingly never-ending energy of the city keeps mystifying onlookers and energizing passer-by’s.
During the tour we will see:
- The palace of the parliament
- The square of the congress
- Palacio Barolo
- Avenida de Mayo
- 9 de Julio avenue
- The obelisk
- Evita’s giant homage
- Calle Florida
- A mural for Messi
- Metropolitan cathedral
- Casa rosada (the pink house)
- Plaza de Mayo (the pulsating heart of the city)
We'll meet at the corner of Defensa Street and Belgrano Avenue (please check with a map other than the app's map) at the Santo Domingo Convent. I'll tell you about the English invasions and why this convent is so important in our history.
From there we will walk to the Mafalda statue and if the line is not too long we will take the famous photo.
The next stop is "La Casa Minima," the smallest house museum in Buenos Aires. But not before stopping at Zanjón de Granados, another museum where you can explore San Telmo's underground tunnels. Here we'll begin the tango chapter of this tour, passing by the iconic tango bars, "Michelangelo," "El Viejo Almacen," and "Bar Sur." This will be our stop to talk about the history of tango and the legends of San Telmo, as this is where this wonderful dance was born. The mystique of tango lives and is felt in San Telmo. If you haven't decided which tango show to see, I can show you different options.
Returning to Defensa Street, our next stop is the famous San Telmo Market. There, we'll see various stalls selling antiques, food, drinks, and regional goods. We'll also be able to taste the delicious dulce de leche.
Then we'll arrive at the famous square where we'll also take some time to see the market and, if we're lucky, maybe see some street tango dancing.
We will stop to see the beautiful San Pedro Telmo Church and Penitentiary Museum (former Women's Prison).
The next stop will be "Casa Ezeiza," the famous "Casa Chorizo" open-air museum where you can explore antiques while I share with you the history of European immigration to Argentina during the 19th and 20th centuries and imagine how the first steps of tango were taken.
We will walk a little further until we reach the beautiful Lezama Park, where the first founding of Buenos Aires took place, and finally we will say goodbye at the door of the incredible National Historical Museum.
My goal is for you to not only have a great time walking around this amazing neighborhood, but also to feel free to ask any questions about the city, what to do, where to shop, and the nightlife.
Sundays are a very special day since San Telmo hosts the giant open-air fair that runs through the entire neighborhood. It is definitely a day not to be missed to visit this beautiful and historic part of the city.
I want to help you make the most of your visit to Buenos Aires, the city that never sleeps.
Note: San Telmo is a tango-filled neighborhood. It's not uncommon to find dancers putting on short performances for tourists, where you can even film them. What's more, they might want to teach you some steps. For this reason, it's important to give them a small tip as a token of appreciation and respect for their art.

Come with me on a carefully curated street art walk in Buenos Aires’ most dynamic district! Leave behind stuffy museums and bougie galleries to explore how emerging artists are creating vibrant art corridors to put Palermo Soho on the map as a street art mecca.
Much like the path of street art, from its shadowy origins as a guerrilla artform regarded as “vandalism” to later being embraced as high culture, Palermo too had humble beginnings as a working class borough but would become transformed into the trendiest area of the city. We'll explore the role street art played in this urban revitalisation.
We'll engage with graffiti's roots in Argentina, which gave the oppressed a voice amidst censorship and authoritarianism, and how it has often mirrored society, reflecting boom and bust economic and political cycles. Recently street art has empowered a youthful revival of urban culture from muralists who use public art to humanise the urban landscape. Today artists encapsulate the country's deepest passions from football, politics, and identity into a vibrant urban tapestry portrayed in massive murals, paste ups and more.
Not a traditional historical tour, but rather offers the opportunity to better understand the important social and political issues facing Argentina today. You will also hear personal anecdotes from the artists to understand the deeper meaning of their work.
During this tour we will visit:
- Plaza Serrano
- Villa Alvear
- Palermo Soho
- The moroccan garden
- Don Julio's community garden
- Palermo Viejo
- Desarmadero bar
Important: This tour ends at Gorriti 4295 (Palermo)
