Things to Do in Munich
Join me for a fun and informative 2.5 hour walking tour around the wonderful old city of Munich. Along the way you will learn about the origins of the city, cool king's, local legends, Third Reich history and of course the Bavarian culture, traditions and beer!
I want you to learn but put emphasis on having a good time, so I teach history through telling engaging and fun stories. This is an interactive tour, so I will be asking you questions. In my experience, the best tours are when everyone feels involved in the learning experience.
The tour includes a 15-minute break, which allows you to look inside the Hofbräuhaus and go to the toilet and get food/ drink. At the end of the tour you will get a list of great recommendations for restaurants and things to do.
Weather:
During colder months I will do my best to make sure the tour is mostly undercover, so that you are comfortable and during Summer I'll keep you in the shade.
Group size:
The average group size is 10 - 30 people throughout the year depending on the season and what events are happening in the city.
Although I do most of the tours myself, I do have a small team of guides who also work for me with similar guiding styles.
Note:
We watch the glockenspiel on the morning tour at 11am.
The afternoon tour can sometimes be shorter at 2h20m.
The tours are in English and maximum group size per booking is 6.
Do not make multiple bookings for a larger group and if you want to bring extra people to the tour then you need to ask before the tour! Don't just bring people and expect they can join. Groups that break this policy will be asked to leave. Please have some respect for us guides and the group sizes.
It is essential that you download the Guruwalk app as this is where I will send you important updates about any changes to the tour.
• Marvel at the majestic limestone façade and opulent 19th-century interiors of King Ludwig II's fairytale fortress, which inspired Disney’s iconic ‘Sleeping Beauty’ castle.

• Fun fact: Neuschwanstein Castle served as a magical backdrop in the 1968 film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, adding to the movie's whimsical charm.
During our tour, we will talk about both the light and dark pages of German history. We will learn about the history of Bavaria from the Roman beginnings of the city, through 700 years during which it was ruled by one powerful family, the Wittelsbachs, to the unification of Germany by Bismarck in the 19th century. We will see the places where Nazism was born, but also those where Joseph Ratzinger, the future Pope Benedict XVI, worked while still an archbishop. We will also see, perhaps the most disappointing attraction of the city – a show of knightly figure fights in the city’s carillon.
Take a walk with us and get to know a city that combines like no other seemingly contradictory fields: history and motoring, art and technology, entrepreneurship, and a specific lifestyle of Munich people, which is a mixture of self-confidence, freedom, and cheerfulness. Perhaps all these contradictions are seamlessly united by what is most important to Munich people… beer!
• Explore King Ludwig's Versailles-inspired castle, the Linderhof, and take a stroll in its opulent gardens along with an immersive guided tour.
• Add a brief shopping and photo stop in the charming village of Oberammergau will refresh you for the rest of your day.

• Fun fact: Neuschwanstein Castle rises proudly upon the ruins of two former castles: Schwanstein Fortress and Hohenschwangau Castle, dating back to the 12th and 13th centuries.

In this 2-hour and 15-minute tour, I invite you to walk with me through the heart of the city to uncover its best-kept secrets, its legends, and its vibrant local life.
We will start at Marienplatz, the soul of Munich, where the famous carillon will welcome us with its medieval dance. From there, we will ascend into the past at St. Peter's (Alter Peter), the oldest church in the city, with stories that seem straight out of an ancient book.
Afterwards, we will explore the aromas and colors of the Viktualienmarkt, the market most beloved by the people of Munich, where I will share some culinary tips and local curiosities with you.
We will continue to the majestic Frauenkirche, the spiritual and architectural symbol of Bavaria, and walk through Viscardigasse, the street of the brave who defied the Nazi regime with a simple act of freedom.
We will close at the legendary Hofbräuhaus, the most famous brewery in the world, where you will understand why Bavarian beer is much more than a drink: it is a way of life. 🍻
