A journey through history and mythology. Relive the golden age of Greece. The city that became the cornerstone of western civilization. Stroll through the picturesque old town of Plaka, past the Acropolis and ancient theaters and stadiums. This is where the modern world began.

Welcome to Athens! The beautiful capital of Greece. Many archaeological and historical sites from the 5th century BC, including the Acropolis, predominate wherever you look.

During the tour, we will walk around some of the most characteristic landmarks of the city centre.
 
We will pass by the Acropolis Museum and the Acropolis Hill. We will have a stopover at the Herodion Ancient Theatre, then we will make a U-turn and head toward the Columns of Zeus Olympian.
 
Afterwards, we will visit Zappeion Hall and the National Gardens to continue to the Houses of Parliament. There we will pay homage to the monument of the unknown soldier, where the change of guard occurs every hour.
 
Before closure, we will pass by the complex of the three most famous historical buildings, the National Academy, the University, and the National Library of Greece.

If there is still time, we can visit the vibrant area of Monastiraki, where street artists and baskers paint with their happy colours the ruins of the Ancient Agora Site.

· The Art Deco Monument of the Unknown Soldier, in front of the Greek Parliament. This marble tomb commemorates those who died for freedom. Every hour, the emblematic changing of the guard pays tribute to the fallen, 24/7. 

· The Greek Parliament building was initially inaugurated as the Royal Palace. Otto of Bavaria, the first king of Greece, lived and ruled for 30 years. His successor, king George I, also lived there until his assassination.   

· The Triplet of the Neoclassical buildings:
 
 

1. The National Academy (1887), was built by Ernst Ziller. At the entrance, the statues of Plato & Socrates will read your mind.
 
 

2. The National University (1837), the first university in the South Eastern Europe. Today it houses the Great Chamber of Ceremonies, where graduations are held.
 
 

3. The National Library (1902) was built by Theophil Hansen and Ernst Ziller. Since the transfer of the collection to a new location, the building has served as reading room.

· Ermou Street never judges the buyers. We'll browse through the chain stores of this commercial pedestrian zone and pass by the Cathedral square.

· Monastiraki Square is a place of both archaeological significance and a modern, international vibe. The nearby district of Psirri is ideal for those who want to dance the night away.

We begin our experience at the awe-inspiring Panathenaic Stadium, where the Olympic spirit still lingers. From there, we admire the neoclassical elegance of the Zappeion Hall, before heading to the colossal Temple of Olympian Zeus and the grand Arch of Hadrian. We continue to the Monument of Lysicrates and then step into the magical alleys of Anafiotika, a corner of Athens that feels like a hidden island village. As we look out over the Ancient Agora, I’ll show you the stunning Temple of Hephaestus from a panoramic point — no need to enter to feel its timeless energy!

We end our journey at the atmospheric Tower of the Winds in the Roman Agora, a place where time, myth, and history meet in stone and silence.

Join me for a photography walk in Athens off the beaten track.

Whether you are a frequent Instagram poster, a scrapbooker or just love keepsakes, you're going to need pictures worthy of framing from your visit at one of Europe's most loved cities.

Technical tips as well as composition theory is some of the things I will share with you.

We will visit some of the most beautiful places in Athens, starting outside the Acropolis museum, walking through Monastiraki. Then we will move to the more contemporary parts of Athens, through Athinas street and the market, then walking through the most urban areas.

Make sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes for walking and don't forget your sunscreen, your hat and some water. Whatever kind of camera you have will work fine, even your phone's camera!
