Private Walks & Storytelling - the best small group tour in Split
User rating
If you’re tired of tours full of numbers, names you can’t pronounce, and facts you forget by the next morning—this one’s for you. This walk is about stories. The kind you remember. I’ll tell you about the man who built this city—Diocletian. Not as a statue, but as a person. One of the most powerful emperors in Roman history, and one of the most complicated. You’ll hear about the people who lived inside these walls long after the empire fell—fishermen, traders, widows, workers, families. People like mine. People like yours. This isn’t a history class. It’s a walk through time with someone who lives here. No scripts. No umbrellas in the air. Just a conversation about a place I know well. It’s a slower, more personal way to learn about Split—with space for questions, stories you’ll actually remember, and honest local tips on what to see, eat, and skip while you’re here

The great outdoors don't come any greater than Krka National Park, one of Croatia's wildest natural treasures. You'll get a chance to breathe in the freshest of airs and explore vegetation-rich and waterfall-splashed landscapes. Tomislav, a local guide, says, “It's a paradise not only for people, but for the 860 species of plants and 240 species of birds and fish that call Krka National Park home.”Krka National Park is a protected place of thundering waterfalls, lakes and riverside walks. After a brief introduction, you'll have the day to stroll along the wooden waterside walkways and admire the scenery. But the park's crowning glory is Skradinski Buk – a huge natural pool with 17 cascading waterfalls bursting through the trees. Tomislav adds, “The fairytale tiers of Skradinski Buk were formed by layers of travertine limestone building up from the mineral springs that feed it.”You'll stop here for a snack at a local restaurant with a view that you'll want to lock away and remember for ever. You've then got all afternoon to explore the park for yourself. You can go wildlife spotting along the trails, as nightingales, herons, falcons and owls are all regulars here. Plus, the water is so see-through-clear here that it's easy to spot fish in the waters of the Krka River. Simply strolling through the park's walkways gives you a whole new appreciate for the power and artistry of Mother Nature.

Boat ride through Croatia’s Neretva Delta with lunch
If you're craving a slice of nature and want a change from the throng of Croatia's historic cities, then the Neretva Delta is what you're after. Within an hour and a half of Split, it's a mosaic of waterways, marshes and lagoons that you can peacefully meander along as you switch your holiday to a slower pace for the day. You'll arrive in the morning at Villa Neretva, where you'll board a trupica – a traditional Croatian riverboat – and take to the waterways of the Neretva River. The river's wetlands sprawl across Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a relatively small stretch flowing through Croatia before it pours out into the Adriatic Sea. In this protected conservation area, you'll glide through the clear water, with a good chance of spotting herons, egrets and pygmy cormorants. There are over 300 species of birds here among the other wildlife, so keep an eye out for some more unusual finds, like colourful kingfishers, black and yellow fire salamanders and vibrant Balkan green lizards.Past Lake Kuti, you'll stop for lunch at Neretva House Tavern, which can only be reached by boat, for a feast of traditional Dalmatian dishes. Then, relax as you weave through the green wetlands, on your return to land.

Walks & Talks - The highlights of Split (Small group - up to 12 people)
User rating

Join me for a walk through the heart of Split — where Roman walls still hold stories, and daily life flows through a palace over 1700 years old.

This is not just any tour. We’ll explore the highlights of Diocletian’s Palace, but also the small things that make this place alive today — the lived-in corners, hidden courtyards, and the everyday lives of people who still call the palace home.

Yes, people still live here. That’s what makes Split so special. You’re not stepping into a museum. You’re stepping into someone’s neighborhood.

I keep the group small — never more than 15 people — so you can ask questions, hear clearly, and enjoy a more personal, relaxed pace. No umbrellas in the air. No rushing.

The tour lasts about 1 hour and 30 minutes, and I always leave time afterward for local tips — where to eat, what to avoid, and how to keep exploring on your own.

If you’re wondering anything before or during the tour — ask. There are no silly questions here.

If you feel the tour added something meaningful to your visit, a respectful tip of 15 to 20 euros per person is the usual way to say thank you. It’s a kind gesture for the time, care and stories I share along the way.

Ready to experience the Old Town like a local, not just a visitor?

Let’s walk it together.

Free Spirit Tour Split

👑The original and best free tour in Split!👑

Due to the noisy and crowded streets, and with the goal to ensure the best possible experience for every guest we use audio system on every tour in Split.

All of our tours are guided exclusively by certified guides with 500+ tours experience.

This free tour follows the footsteps of Diocletian, a local peasant boy who against all odds became the Roman emperor and fierce prosecutor of Christians. Diocletian's palace, today a UNESCO World Heritage Site, holds historical sights, secrets, and stories that come to life on this tour. The Golden Gate presents the entrapment system designed to defend the palace. The main street leads to the central square - Peristyle, where the emperor would greet his servants as a son of Jupiter.

Jupiter's Temple is nearby but the emperor's mausoleum, today the cathedral, overshadows it in both size and design. Feel humble and small while entering the emperor's quarters through the impressive Vestibule. Imagine joining the emperor on a feast in his Dining Hall, laying down, and enjoying loads of exquisite food and wine.
Learn what the Romans ate and what we eat today. The cellars hold secrets from ancient through medieval all the way to modern times, hopefully, you don't stumble upon a dragon.

Medieval life was harsh but Split grew both in size and culture - see the Town Hall and meet the author of the first book in the Croatian language. He loved books but also women and drinks. Finishing on the Riva waterfront you will feel that you know Split by heart, where to go, what to do, where to eat, and how to spend the perfect holiday in Croatia.

Free tours do not have a set price, instead, each person tips the guide at the end the amount they consider appropriate. Amounts usually range from €10 to €50 depending on satisfaction with the tour.

Since the tour operates in the city's historical center, please keep in mind it's forbidden to walk in a bikini or shirtless.

During the tour, alcohol consumption is not permitted. Make sure that your behavior does not affect other guests on the tour.

This tour is not possible in a wheelchair since the route cannot be adjusted adequately.

*Due to Croatian laws the official price of the tour is: 1 Euro per person
