"Old City" of Dubrovnik is centar birthplace of the city and origin capital of the Dubrovnik Republic, a center of once small size, but significant maritime power.
For 450 years the city-state Republic of Dubrovnik (latin: Ragusa) held independence (1358 AD - 1808 AD) between big and powerful rivals with devastating natural disasters, in very turbulent times. Located on the Adriatic sea which is northernmost arm of the Mediterranean Sea, with hinterland as central and southeast of Europe
Today "Old City" of Dubrovnik is a UNESCO world heritage site, a location that is almost like a big open museum where time almost stopped for centuries. Stronghold is surrounded by 2 kilometer astounding walls, once with a moat below drawbridge, with numerous towers, bastions and forts.
Walking route:
From the City gates of Pile (west entrance), through a stone bridge with a wooden drawbridge via main street Stradun (Placa) to the City gates Ploče (east entrance) and a few little streets by side.
