This tour takes you all around the city. The beautiful Buda side, the wonderful Pest side, and Margaret Island. This great tour will give you a nice and fast way to discover Budapest and its hidden treasures. Our tour guides will provide historical explanations and photo shoots during the tour. This tour is a great way to learn about Hungarian culture and discover Budapest’s colourful history—from the founding of the Hungarian state, through the Ottoman occupation and the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, all the way to the 21st century.

I present the city through stories and fun facts, not dry dates, and I love going off the beaten track to show you lesser-known places with fascinating stories behind them.

What makes this tour special?

As a professional musician, I also share music-related stories from Hungarian history and introduce you to the artistic side of the city, including great places and venues to listen to (and sometimes play!) live music 🎶

The tour is also interactive and engaging: along the way, I include fun trivia questions, encourage active participation and good answer won’t go unrewarded! 😉

Along the way, I’ll talk about the do’s and don’ts in Budapest, and I’ll happily recommend where—and what—to eat and drink like a local 🍷🍲

At the end of the tour, I’ll give you my own personal list of recommendations, so you can make the most of your time in Budapest even after the walk.

Meeting point:

In front of the main entrance of St. Stephen’s Basilica

👉 Look out for the green umbrella! 🟢

Book now, and let’s explore Budapest together!

Explore the  most beautiful parts of the city in a small group (a maximum of 25 participants) for a thorough walkthrough of Hungary’s and Budapest’s history with an independent guide!

Before booking, please read the whole description and the disclaimer at the end.

Welcome to Budapest!

"The Pearl of the Danube" is a unique metropolis with the lush hills and forests of Buda, Pest with its inviting bars, diverse Jewish quarter, and vibrant nightlife, as well as the marvelous bridges connecting the two banks.
If you come with me, you will have an unforgettable experience as we explore the history of Budapest in a small group together, from the first steps of the ancestors of Hungarians, the Mongolian and the Ottoman occupation, the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, the two World Wars, decades of communism, and to present day, while marveling at the city's most beautiful attractions.

Alongside the essential and magnificent stops, I will also share personal stories about my family, the adventures of my ancestors during communism, and the two world wars.

I will show you hidden wonders known only to locals as well, the things that colour our everyday lives.

The tour covers Budapest's most important sights and attractions , such as:

  • Historical city center
  • Millennium Underground
  • St Stephen's Basilica
  • Statues of Budapest
  • Liberty Square
  • Parliament
  • Central Market Hall
  • Margaret Island
  • Shoes on the Danube Bank
  • Synagogue
  • Chain Bridge
  • Thermal Baths
  • Gellert Hill
  • Castle District

As someone who engages in writing, human stories are particularly important to me. Therefore, besides the most exciting turning points in history, I strive to present human destinies in the storms of centuries. As a playwright, I will reveal Budapest's artistic side to you as well. As a screenwriter, I will also involve you in the surprisingly deep connection between Hollywood and Budapest , as you will have the chance to meet several real stars on my tour. You will also get to know some seriously fun facts !

During the tour, while conveying historical and cultural knowledge, I will tell you about my favorite hangouts , and recommend great restaurants and pubs . I will share with you what I believe is worth doing in Budapest and what is not, where to wander off the well-known tourist path if you are truly curious about life in Pest.

Meeting point: in front of St. Stephen's Basilica. Look for the turquoise umbrella!

We will finish the tour near the Chain Bridge.

‼️🤔 Please be aware before booking my tour:

To completely understand this tour, you should speak (close to) native level English, so please don’t book this tour if you have a problem understanding more complicated sentences at a faster pace as I will have a lot to share with you on the tour, and I don’t simplify the historical/cultural facts. This is an English-speech based, history-oriented tour.

Again: this is a history and art-oriented tour that offers in depth insights into Hungarian history, including past and current conflicts as well as political issues. We’ll explore these and in addition, Hungarian theatre, movies, fine and contemporary art, so be prepared: my tour is longer than any other free walking tour in Budapest.

If you prefer a shorter, more mainstream/casual free walking tour, GuruWalk offers several options. My tour typically lasts 3 and a half-hours or more depending on how many questions you have, as I strive to make the experience as interactive and wholesome as possible.

If you are looking for a comprehensive tour that covers art, architecture, and othe complete history of Budapest and Hungary, both past and present, this is the free walking tour for you.
🤗

Book your place now, hope to meet you soon!

Hungarian Strudel Making Class: Stretch & Fill Two Ways

The Strudel is a typical Habsburg-Empire dessert, but it can be originated to the Turkish influence in Hungary. It is an essential part of the wedding dinner in the countryside. I use my mother’s recipe who makes the stretched version. This Strudel pastry is elastic, very thin and it is stretched by the hand. We make sweet and salty Strudel as well. Where I grew up, there were some typical fillings: poppy-seed with pumpkin, salty cabbage and sweet cottage cheese cream. Now you can make these on my special baking course. Come and join my culinary experience, learn about my family tricks and at the end of the course enjoy the result of your efforts.
