Asunción, Art and History: A Tour That Will Take You Back in Time
Discover Asunción beyond the typical postcards in a unique tour accompanied by a passionate historian who turns every street into a living story. It's not just a walk: it's an immersive experience that will take you to the heart of the Paraguayan capital, reviving its colonial past, learning anecdotes of national heroes, urban secrets, and curiosities that few locals know.
The tour begins at Turista Roga (National Tourism Secretariat), a key point for all tourists visiting Asunción, where they have the support of the National Government to obtain information. From there, we head to the emblematic Calle Palma, a historical and commercial axis with its iconic architecture. We visit the Economy Museum, located in the elegant Palacio Alegre, then cross to the Oratory of the Virgin of the Assumption and the National Pantheon of the Heroes. We then delve into the set of the Four Plazas (O’Leary, Heroes, Democracy, and Freedom), where Asunción speaks to us through art, literature, architecture, in a diverse story from social and cultural to political/military. We then visit the Cathedral, the main temple of the city of Asunción, with a sober neobaroque style, and advance through the other four notable plazas, (Plaza de Armas, Plaza Juan de Salazar, and Plaza del Congreso) with sculptural ensembles that show the scars of the civil wars that marked Paraguay's political agenda in the 20th century. There, we will see the historical buildings that surround them, (Police Headquarters, Municipal Theater, Post Office, National Congress, and Cabildo). Then we go to the Foundational Site of Asunción, and then head to the Presidential Palace and the heritage complex of the Manzana de la Rivera. To conclude, we will go to the House of Independence, the most important colonial building and museum in Paraguay, and finish our tour again at Turista Roga, where you can receive more information about other tours and cultural activities.
