Things to Do in Tarifa
Greetings travelers, welcome to Tarifa!
As some of you may know, it is a peculiar city, it is located in the " Strait of Gibraltar " , very close to the African continent, only 14 km away.
In addition to that, it is the point where the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean meet , a place of great environmental interest.
In the city we find a mixture of history, culture from different countries and unparalleled gastronomy (such as the delicious almadraba red tuna).
Returning to the tour I will tell you a little about the itinerary.
In the first place we will find ourselves at the famous "Puerta de Jerez" , a place where we will give way to the entrance of the old part of the city.
After a brief presentation we will begin by embarking on a journey through time strolling through the beautiful streets of Tarifa.
I will show you some places of interest and shops of all kinds, souvenir shops, cafeterias, bars, pastry shops, clothing stores, etc.
The first stop is located at the beautiful church of " San Mateo Apóstol " where we will talk about some of its curiosities. After the church we will go a little further into the old town, where we will see some of the oldest and most picturesque houses in the city as well as the wall that surrounded them.
We will go to a viewpoint with impressive views of Africa, we will pass by the town hall and its peculiar square.
We will see some more alleys and we will head to the Alameda to culminate in the beautiful castle of "Guzmán el Bueno" . There we will talk about its history and the legend of the character that gives its name to the castle.
To finish we will see the port with its fishing boats, the bunkers of the small beach , and the castle of Santa Catalina , we will arrive at the promenade that connects the island of the pigeons (where the city lighthouse is located).
We will finish the tour with the views of Africa and surrounded on one side by the Mediterranean Sea and on the other by the Atlantic Ocean.
I wait for you on this magnificent tour full of surprises, good atmosphere, beauty and above all a lot of history.
See you soon!
Greetings travelers!
It's a great honor for me to offer you this tour of one of the most beautiful places in Spain.
As you know, we are located in the Strait of Gibraltar , a transit point par excellence, connecting the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean . It's a very special area, especially because all the great civilizations in history have sought to control this place.
Here we can find both Roman and medieval sites, as well as Bastolo-Punic ones .
But not only that, we must pay special attention to the prehistoric remains that we find in the area, caves with Paleolithic engravings of more than 15,000 years old.
For this reason, and because of my keen interest in history, I've designed a tour that will cover various periods of our civilization. All of this from the beautiful enclave of Baelo Claudia .
See you at the meeting point.
See you soon!
IMPORTANT:
- Wear comfortable shoes; sandals are not recommended because we will be walking on dirt and gravel roads.
- Bring water and sunscreen.
- Come with your own vehicle.
- The stops will have easy parking.
We are in a very strategic point such as the Strait of Gibraltar, the only natural channel that connects the Atlantic Ocean with the Mediterranean Sea and the closest point of the peninsula with Africa.
The meeting point would be at the tourist office at 10 in the morning and for two hours (more or less), we would tour:
- The old town of Tarifa
- Food market (Neo-Mudejar)
- Puerta de Jerez
- Street of Light
- The road
- The Church of San Mateo
- General Copons
- Moral neighborhood
- Privileges Street
- Hermanos Costaleros Square
- Fountain Square
- Wind Square
- Miramar
- Plaza la Ranita (Town Hall, warehouse, library...)
- Almedina Gate
- Castillo Guzmán the Good
We are not a normal and ordinary tour since we know the town and its history in a more colloquial way having been raised and grown up in it, having a lot of knowledge about little-known events in the city, the way of life of our people and the evolution that the city has suffered in recent decades.
Welcome to the end of the European continent!!!
I am delighted to be able to offer you an unforgettable experience, in which I will try to convey to you what I feel and what inspires me about this unique and unrepeatable destination that I am in love with.
We will enjoy a tour through its interesting historical and cultural heritage, with the best panoramic views of its urban landscape and natural environment in which it is framed, while we chat about its customs and traditions. Adapting it to your pace and preferences, as it is about creating our unique moment in Tarifa as a team.
We will begin our tour in front of the Puerta de Jerez, through which we will enter its historic centre, crossing its main streets and neighbourhoods, where we will immerse ourselves in the most typical atmosphere of Tarifa. We will visit the Church of San Mateo Apóstol, next to it the Plaza de los Perdones and del General Copons. We will continue through the Barrio del Moral, towards the oldest part of the town, passing by one of its main viewpoints and squares, until we reach the jewel of the Muslim period, the Castillo de Guzmán el Bueno, where, after learning about its history and legend, we will walk through the Port, leaving the Castillo de Santa Catalina on the right and arriving at our last point and the most emblematic one on a geographical and historical level, the jetty that leads to the Isla de las Palomas.
