Years after the border into the occupied northern part of Cyprus closed, it's once again open to visitors. Oozing with history and culture at every turn, on this full-day trip you'll journey through the hills to Kyrenia for a guided tour and free time, before a visit to 13th-century Bellapais Abbey and lunch. Leaving your resort behind, you'll travel towards the Strovilia checkpoint. Once we're across the border into occupied northern Cyprus, we'll head straight through the scenic Pentadaktylos Mountains to reach Kyrenia. Here, you'll enjoy a guided walk around Kyrenia Castle and have some free time to explore the seaside harbour town.After lunch, you'll visit the ruins of the Gothic Bellapais Abbey. The setting on a mountain slope is as beautiful as the views down to Kyrenia and the Mediterranean. It was in the village of Bellapais that Lawrence Durrell lived and wrote his novel, Bitter Lemons.

This coastal walk connects Konnos beach at the northern tip of Cape Greko park with Glyky Nero beach in Ayia Napa. The route is 10 km long on the rocky coast. Cape Greko park is a small park between the bustling beach resorts of Ayia Napa and Protaras. The itinerary (a possible stretch of it is on Aphrodite trail) goes by major attractions in the area including the group of sea caves in Agia Napa, the group of sea caves of Cape Greko (known as Palathkia 'ie Palaces), as well as Ammos Tou Kambouri beach, Kermia beach, Kamara tou Koraka natural arch and Agioi Anargyroi chapel (and adjacent cave). Cape Greko park is a good destination also for birdwatchers, especially during spring migration. The waters are usually very calm on the east side. In the hot season sea turtles visit the area to feed. In older times the Mediterranean monk seal was also around - now a few individuals are spotted here sporadically.

The Agia Napa and Cape Greko coastline are characterised by crystal clear waters and light blue water colours and offer excellent snorkelling possibilities. Near Agia Napa there are sea caves with beautiful colours that we could enter (usually we enter two), as well as Lovers' Bridge natural arch. This is our main snorkeling route and a bit over 1 km in length. We also visit Konnos beach, at the northern end of the east coast of Cape Greko park for snorkelling as there are good chances for spotting sea turtles. In our snorkeling trips we use buoy(s) so that passing boats know our presense. It should be noted that the trip is customisable. We can finetune the route on the day, depending on the weather and the travellers' profile and preferences. If the customers agree, in case of forecasted choppy sea, instead we snorkel (only) around East Cape Greko (if the weather is expected to be bad everywhere, we cancel the trip).

The tour ends on a high in charming Lefkara, a village famed for its handmade lace and embroidery. ‘Women, young and old, can be seen seated outside their homes and shops making lace,' says Stavroula. ‘For hundreds of years, the men from the village have travelled all over Europe to sell it, even Leonardo da Vinci bought some.'
