Shark Bay is a coastal park on the northern shore of Tortola, the largest of the British Virgin Islands. Established in 1999, it is one of the newest national parks in the region. Lying just east of Brewer’s Bay, it extends from the ridge of Anderson Point to the base of Mount Healthy. 18.4 acres On this hiking trail, we will discover a variety of landscapes in Shark Bay. This protected area features a shady tropical forest, a beautiful rocky beach, and an impressive cliff rising above the waves. A gentle paddle safari by kayak or SUP (stand-up paddleboard) that weaves through an untouched mangrove lagoon on Beef Island, Tortola, British Virgin Islands. Explore Tortola historic sites by traveling up Great Mountain Rd to a 460 foot mural on Fahie Hill where you will see a series of colorful murals done by different local artists. Each mural is a vignette of an old way of island life, from “banking” (terracing) crops on the island’s steep hills to cutting sugarcane to telling ghost stories by lantern light. We will pull over to give the murals a good look. Move on to J.R. O'Neal Botanic Gardens and the Rum Distillery one of the last of its kind in the British Virgin Islands. Continue on to the most famous Cane Gardens Bay Beach for 1 hour. Last is the Crafts Alive Village where you can shop for Tortolian clothes and souvenirs of your choice.

Highly rewarding hike uses a bush trail that winds up Mount Alma, the 736ft hill looming over Trellis Bay and Bluff Bay on Beef Island. Label as one of the best 360 view in the British Virgin Islands. In past years, a spring was present flowing from the mountain while parts of the mountain was use for cattle. These days it’s occasionally used by technicians maintaining an airport navigation light up there, and occasionally by hikers like us. In 2017 the trail was destroyed by hurricane Irma with fallen trees and land slides. In 2020 our team of three cleared and create a new trail all the way to the top! Now we can enjoy this hidden gem!
