Ciénaga Magdalena , the inspiration for "Macondo", is one of the few cities in the world that does not have a date of the day it was founded. When European civilizations arrived almost 500 years ago, it was a large village with more than 5,000 huts. Today it is on an immense beach that measures 4 kilometers wide.
