The area is known for its 40-foot tide changes and Tidal Bore waves that are unique to this area of Alaska, and are not commonly found elsewhere throughout the world. We follow the same path as the Alaska Railroad through avalanche runout zones up to Bird Point, where we are able to cross underneath the highway for a chance to see beluga whales when the tide is right. Afterwards we climb up a hill for more of a birds eye view of the water and quiet mountainside surroundings. Approaching Girdwood, we descend the hill and go through the Ghost Forest, so named for the trees that died in the 1964 earthquake.
