Full Day Guided Kayak Tour on Knik River
User rating
New in 2023! This full-day tour transverses a glacier feed river as it meanders through a glacier-carved valley. It is not uncommon to see a whole host of wildlife that frequents the river system as we paddle our way through the rivers meandering course. You will find salmon swimming under your paddle craft as they migrate to their spawning grounds. Also, expect to see ducks and eagles fly overhead and maybe even find a moose standing in the water eating a meal. This tour starts by paddling across Jim Lake and then a short overland portage into Jim Creek. Finally, exit on the beach of the Knik River that flows from the Knik Glacier, and while there get some pictures with the glacier in the background. The Knik Glacier is the headwaters of the Knik River and is the largest glacier in Southcentral Alaska. From there we will continue downriver to the mouth of the Knik arm of the Cook Inlet.

Matanuska Glacier Tour
User rating
The Matanuska Glacier is a premiere attraction in Alaska (and our absolute favorite!) Up to 5 guests will enjoy a scenic drive along the beautiful Matanuska river in a late model Chrysler Pacifica (avoid the hassles of big tour vans!) We'll stop on the way for snacks and coffee and enjoy a guided tour as you relax in comfort and style! Once at the Glacier, we will join a guided tour by the local Matanuska Park Guides throughout the glacier and told about the history, size and scope as you traverse the canyons, peaks, valleys and caves on this beginner to intermediate hike. Also, worth noting, there are always easier ways if you don't care to go through a cave, you can take a peak in and go around. (Licensed by Alaska's Transportation Department, I am setting this up as 3 - 6 people because of the way the Viator commissions and Park fees work, if you are just one or two people you can still book the tour but I need to charge for 3 - 5 people to make it feasible, if that makes sense.)

Our tour runs on an asphalt bike path through the Chugach State Park with views of the Turnagain Arm and its 6,000 foot tall mountains. The area is known for its 40-foot tide changes and Tidal Bore waves that are unique to this area of Alaska, and are not commonly found elsewhere throughout the world. We follow the same path as the Alaska Railroad through avalanche runout zones up to Bird Point, where we are able to cross underneath the highway for a chance to see beluga whales when the tide is right. Afterwards we climb up a hill for more of a birds eye view of the water and quiet mountainside surroundings. Approaching Girdwood, we descend the hill and go through the Ghost Forest, so named for the trees that died in the 1964 earthquake.
